Licence to Cook : What is it?

'The entitlement to cook will mean that every young person who wants to, can learn basic cooking skills through dedicated lessons in food preparation techniques, diet and nutrition, hygiene and safety, and wise food shopping. This will be in addition to changes in Food Technology that the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority is already considering to make lessons more practical.'
Alan Johnson, September 2006

Licence to Cook is a national programme led by a consortium group comprised of the British Nutrition Foundation, The Design and Technology Association and the Specialist Schools and Academies Trust. It is designed to address the standards, skills and knowledge that support food education, ensuring that teachers and related professionals are confident in their subject knowledge and skills, and that schools are equipped to deliver a sustainable programme.
